I’m Sonal Singh, the maker behind Studio Anicca and a self-taught ceramicist. My journey with clay began as a quiet shift—an instinct to slow down, to create with my hands, and to move towards a more grounded, independent life. After a decade in corporate finance, I turned to ceramics full-time in 2021, drawn to the quiet act of making.

Most of my work takes shape on the wheel, where I look for precision and fluidity in form. Handbuilding offers contrast—an opportunity to break away from repetition. I work in small batches, letting forms evolve gradually. With each batch, subtle shifts emerge—a curve refines, a foot lightens, a glaze deepens. I prefer this quiet, imperceptible evolution, where the work is never fixed but moves forward in quiet, deliberate increments.

The kiln is its own maker. I fire in a gas kiln, where each firing is a theater—flame, air, and the alchemy of minerals shaping the work in ways beyond control. A quiet chase between knowing and discovering—guiding, then letting go.

Right now, this process feels like home. But like anything alive, it’s meant to change—new clays, new forms, new purpose. Each method tells a different story, and I want to see where they lead.

Each piece carries forward this quiet pursuit of craft—honest, evolving, and ever curious.
